    Electromagnetic hybrid active-passive vehicle suspension system

    The suspension systems currently in use can be classified as passive, semi-active and active. The passive suspension systems are the most commonly used due to their low price and high reliability. However, this system can not assure the desired performance from a modem suspension system An important improvement of the suspension performance is achieved by the active systems. Nevertheless, they are only used in a very reduced number of automobile models because they are expensive and complex. Another disadvantage of active systems is the relatively high energy consumption. The use of electromagnetic linear actuators is an alternative for the implementation of active suspensions. Moreover, this solution has the advantage of the suspension energy recovery. In spite of the materials development, the electromagnetic actuators are yet expensive to produce. In this paper it is proposed an hybrid suspension system which combines the simplicity of the passive dampers with the performance of an electromagnetic active suspension. Maintaining the passive damper, it is possible to keep the performance of the active suspension, but using a smaller electromagnetic actuator

    Roaming service for electric vehicle charging using blockchain-based digital identity

    We present a suitable approach to address the electric vehicle charging roaming problem (e-roaming). Blockchain technologies are applied to support the identity management process of users charging their vehicles and to record energy transactions securely. At the same time, off-chain cloud-based storage is used to record the transaction details. A user wallet settled on a mobile application stores user verified credentials; a backend application in the vehicle charging station validates the user credentials to authorize the energy transaction. The current model can be applied to similar contexts where the user may be required to keep several credentials from different providers to authenticate digital transactions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Thermal performance of lightweight steel framed wall: the importance of flanking thermal losses

    "First Published August 21, 2013"The thermal performance of a modular lightweight steel framed wall was measured and calculated with three-dimensional finite element method model. The focus of this article is on the effect of flanking thermal losses. The calculated heat flux values varied from ?22% (external surface) to +50% (internal surface) when flanking loss was set to 0 as a reference case, thermal transmittance equal to 0.30 W/(m2·K).     Levantamento das papilionoideae (Leguminosae) ocorrentes no estado do Pará.

    A família Leguminosae está representada por três subfamílias (Mimosoideae, Caesalpinioideae e Faboideae ou Papilionoideae), 727 gêneros e 19.325 espécies. A subfamília Papilionoideae reúne 28 tribos, 500 gêneros e 13.800 espécies. Devido à ampla distribuição geográfica das leguminosas na Amazônia e ao potencial econômico, o estudo dessa família torna-se muito importante para a região. Este trabalho objetivou realizar o levantamento das Papilionoideae ocorrentes no estado do Pará, registradas nos Herbários IAN da Embrapa Amazônia Oriental e MG do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeld. A coleção de Papilionoideae do Herbário IAN tem cerca de 8.000 exemplares disponíveis no banco de dados do sistema BRAHMS (Botanical Research and Herbarium Mangement System). Porém havia necessidade de conferir essas informações e corrigi-las quando necessário a fim de aprimorar essa base de dados. Procedeu-se a correção, conferindo os dados diretamente com as imagens das exsicatas. A seguir, foi realizado o levantamento no Herbário MG (Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi), durante o qual, foram fotografadas 4.000 exsicatas de Paplilionoideae coletadas no Pará e das quais não se encontravam duplicatas no acervo do Herbário IAN. No acervo IAN existem 3.161 exemplares de Papilionoideae coletados no estado do Pará, os quais correspondem a 12 tribos, 77 gêneros e 434 espécies

    Assessment of building operational energy at early stages of design – a monthly quasi-steady-state approach

    In this paper a new numerical tool to estimate the operational energy of buildings, in early design stages, is presented. This tool is part of a novel approach for life-cycle analysis based on macro-components developed in the European research project SB_Steel – Sustainable Buildings in Steel. Two early design stages are considered in the scope of the methodology: the concept stage and the preliminary stage. This numerical tool enables to estimate the energy use for space heating, space cooling and domestic hot water production, taking into account (i) the climate; (ii) the use type of the building (e.g. residential, offices and commercial/industrial); (iii) the building envelope characteristics; and (iv) the building services. The developed algorithm is based on a monthly quasi-steady-state approach, modified for improved accuracy through the calibration of correction factors that depend on the climatic region and the type of building. Good results were achieved, with errors lower than 10% when compared to performance-based approaches such as the use of advanced dynamic methods. Finally, the case study of a low-rise residential building is presented, in which the results obtained from the simplified methodology are compared with the results from the simulation program EnergyPlus, showing a good agreement between them
